Wednesday, October 2, 2024 The Workshop: Ebb and Flow

There’s a general tidal movement to the workshop here, an ebb and flow. Sometimes I’m filled with inspiration, like Bezalel in the days of Exodus, with a heart stirred to do creative work. Alas, other times I am more like the sluggard of Proverbial fame: go to the ant, O sluggard.

I finally finished the poinciana project, a sluggish work indeed, and sent it off to my long-suffering friend Sue who had waited patiently for it.

I haven’t done any watercolors since that day in July. The finishing work was just the lettering, which came at the end of a long ebb phase.

But in the meantime, I do things like this:

And this:

and this:

So when the watercolor tide is out, other projects are flowing in.

I’m looking forward to the next time when my inner Bezalel heart of watercolor begins to stir again. Perhaps soon…

I’ll probably let this one go out with the tide in the morning.

  1. Yes, indeed, those creative juices seem to ebb and flow. But by the looks of your other creative endeavors, it might be that those creative juices have simply chose to flow in a different direction for a time.
The Poinciana tree is Beautiful! You have truly captured its essence!
BTW I enjoyed your tale of woe from those grueling Grade School days..! The “mean girls” (and mean boys) seemed to sense my vulnerability in those days, so I was all too often a target of their antics. But there were times I wasn’t very nice, either – yikes!
    Keep those stories coming!

    1. I suppose a lot of people have had similar experiences in schools. It was brutal for those of us who were vulnerable and easily intimidated. And yes, there were times when I wasn’t very nice either. Aren’t we glad those days are behind us? Thanks for your comment!!

  2. the Poinciana tree painting is lovely. What a treasure by Lynn. I like your bookmarks, too. I too have been a sluggard in getting any painting done…or much else for that matter. You inspire me though!
