March 18, 2020 In the Year of COVID-19

In the year of COVID-19
We learned to wash our hands:
Twenty seconds to get them clean,
The Department of Health demands.

In the year of COVID-19
We changed our way of greeting.
Hugs and handshakes can’t be seen,
Elbow bumps are how we’re meeting.

In the year of COVID-19
Fear was in the vapor.
People became selfish and mean,
Buying all the toilet paper.

In the year of COVID-19
We cancelled all our sports.
Viewing choices were awfully lean,
Cooking shows replaced basketball courts.

In the year of COVID-19
Restaurants and concerts closed.
So instead of spending all our green,
We stayed at home and dozed.

In the year of COVID-19
We couldn’t go to church.
But take heart, that doesn’t mean
We’ve been left in a spiritual lurch.

In the year of COVID-19
God is still on the throne.
Confess your sins, O nation obscene,
Christ alone for your sins can atone.

Amen.

I’ll probably delete this in the morning.

  1. You have given me a formal structure to analyze… vey excited! Seven four line stanzas with three lines of tetrameter and one line ( the second) of trimeter, rhyming abab. You are definitely the poet laureate of our house!
