The sun went ‘round and ‘round and never thought about what she was wearing or what her hair looked like. But one day she looked down and saw herself reflected in the ocean and said, “How terribly plain and dull I am!” And thus began her quest to get a make-over.
She left her usual place in the sky, plunging the world into confusion. People kept checking their clocks and wondering where the sun was or why it wasn’t where it should be. She found a large paint store and muscled her way in, scaring the staff and customers away. Her mere presence caused the paint cans to burst open and she was thrilled with the mixture of colors swirling together on the floor, so she dipped her hair in it and swung her locks around so she could see them. “Oh, that looks glorious!” She exclaimed.
But instead of being satisfied and ready to take her place in the sky again, she was fill with discontent. “My face! My face! Now that my hair is so brilliant, my face looks like a dull bronze plate!” She continued to roam until she saw a large field filled with bright red tulips. “Ah, just the thing for my mouth,” she murmured. She bent over and kissed the field, burning the red, red color onto her lips. “Ooh, shiny!” she squealed with pleasure when she saw herself reflected in a lake.
It became clear that she would never be done with this business of making “improvements” to her appearance and the world was becoming increasingly chaotic and dismayed at her failure to run her usual course through the sky.
The Lord of the sun, moon, stars and all creation had been fully aware of all of the sun’s mischief and shenanigans. The time had come to correct, rebuke, teach and restore. No one was privy to the Great Correction, but when it was all over, the sun meekly returned to her rightful place in the sky with a renewed understanding that her only job description was to be part of the grand music of the spheres that declares the glory of God and proclaims His handiwork. Her vanity had been replaced with humility and the world heaved a big sigh of relief.
This has been Fiction Friday with Lynniebeemuseoday.
I’ll probably delete this in the morning, being much more appreciative of the elements of creation that give continual glory to God.
