Tuesday, January 4, 2022 Cold, Wintry Days

There are days when living in a cold, wintry world is like living in a land of enchantment. It’s tempting to think that I could be happy going south for the winter. I wouldn’t miss the days of below zero wind chill. But I’d miss the sun dogs that only come out to play on those days.

I wouldn’t miss the slippery ice beneath my feet. But I’d miss the delicate beauty of hoarfrost.

I wouldn’t miss wearing all those extra layers of clothing, but I’d miss the pleasure of a hot cup of tea.

What would you miss?

I’ll probably send this blog post south for the winter in the morning.

  1. I’d miss (like you) tea! Then there is soup! sweaters! Being cozy! Snow shoeing when it’s not toooo cold!
Icicles! Dave said he’d rather chop and saw wood in days like these than any other time of year. If I don’t have room in our refrigerators and freezers (note the plural), then if it’s cold enough I can always store food in the cooler on the deck (keeping it away from curious dogs and other critters).
I just found some wonderful photos of your family from a very memorable day many years ago…in the snow. We would miss wonderful days as that fateful day!

    1. Those are some good ones, Julie! I’d add those to my list except show shoeing and wood chopping, neither of which I’ve ever done. But I have my dad’s snow shoes! You’ll have to show me those photos some time – now I’m curious!

  2. Hello Lynn! This is the first time I’ve had the chance to read the comments too:-). I love that this looks like it will be easy to do…we did try a little snow shoeing while we lived up north, but gave them away…hard to have the “right snow” and the “right temps” at the same time! I would add lighting a lovely smelling candle, and hot chocolate to the mix above:-)
