When out on a stroll
You must beware
Of the deadly toll
Of the wild parsnip
Don’t be fooled
By its yellow beauty
Or you’ll be schooled
By the wild parsnip
The slightest touch
Of its sap on your skin
Will burn so much!
Oh, that wild parsnip!
Don’t smell the bloom,
Don’t stop for a photo
Away you must zoom
From the wild parsnip.

This has been a public service announcement. I risked my life for that photo. You’re welcome.
This post will be lost in space in the morning.
Our hero! Thank you for that public service announcement and for risking your life for us. I did not know about that wild parsnip. I will be much more astute upon entering the “wilds” now.

We saw a lot of it at River Bend!

“The Wilds” have encroached upon US! We had a wild parsnip pay us a visit last month! It was at the edge of our front yard next to our driveway. Dave was the hero in our story. Armed with protective armor, he was able to eliminate it with nary an injury! Those birds and bees seem to be willing ambassadors of diversity to our outdoor environment.

Kris said he used to see it a lot in ditches when he was out in the corn fields and their company issued regular warnings about it. I’m glad Dave was able to be your knight in shining armor! 🙂

I’d expect to see it in ditches, indeed, we commonly see it on our way to our friends’ farm (where (alas) there are no more goats, but we have a garden). But in the city???
And now we don’t have bats in the belfry, but we have at least one mouse in our bedroom! Our cat has inspected, but he doesn’t seem to be alerted yet. City life, country life!
