Thursday, August 29, 2024 The Workshop: Edibles from the Garden (Mostly)

To clarify, the word “mostly” modifies the word “garden,” not the word “edibles.” Glad to clear that up for you. But some things that are from the garden aren’t edible. And some things that are edible aren’t from the garden. It’s basically a free-for-all with the word “mostly” now.

I’m going to try to use a WordPress feature that I don’t usually use (a way to put photos and text side by side) because (a) nothing about technology comes intuitively to me, and (b) it’s different and I’m change-averse. Glad to clear that up for you, too.

These days I’ve been busy in the kitchen pottering about making things from what we’ve been growing.

Basil was transformed, using mainly spoons, (that’s a joke from Monsters, Inc. for those of you scratching your heads) into…

Presto, it’s Pesto!

Peppers of two kinds were pickled in two ways.

And pleasing syrups were made from pleasing plants. From left to right: strawberry basil, lime mint, rhubarb mint, and ginger. Full disclosure: I didn’t grow the strawberries or the ginger. Or the limes.

Looky! Hot fudge sauce and caramel sauce, too. It’s been very saucy and syrupy here. This fits into the “edible” but “not from our garden” category.

We’ve exited the edible category and have moved into “from the garden but NOT edible.” Charming bookmarks from our flowers and leaves! I’m so thrilled with these, I could take a photo and post it on my blog. Which I have done.

And here are some un-pressed flowers to celebrate this day: Happy Thursday!

This is the day
that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice
and be glad in it.

(P.S. I just discovered recently that I could change the color of my text. Oh, what joy!)

So there you have it. What’s been keeping you busy these days?

I’ll probably pickle this post in two ways in the morning.

  1. I like the alternating text and photos!

    You have been very busy processing things from our garden. My insider knowledge indicates that a blogpost on apples may be coming!
